A Ritual for America

I spent my morning entranced in the ritual of Ronald Reagans Funeral
. The experience was somewhat surreal for me. I have been in the first limousine of a funeral procession twice in the past year. Empathy came easily.

I have come to value rituals greatly, and this one was beautiful.
Reflective of the man on several levels...

"......... We've gathered to celebrate the life of a great president in a church where believers profess their faith. So this is not only about a person, but about faith.......In this service of worship, we celebrate the life of a great president, and we profess the resurrection faith of this church. It is faith in God's victory over darkness. It is faith in the ultimate triumph of light..........There is no better time to celebrate the triumph of life than in a service for Ronald Reagan
."
Senator and Reverand John Danforth

"
Ronald Reaganbelongs to the ages now, but we preferred it when he belonged to us. ......We know, as he always said, that America's best days are ahead of us. But with Ronald Reagan's passing, some very fine days are behind us. And that is worth our tears."

"I cannot imagine how any diplomat, or any dramatist, could improve on his words to Mikhail Gorbachev at the Geneva Summit : `Let me tell you why it is we distrust you.' Those words are candid and tough and they cannot have been easy to hear. But they are also a clear invitation to a new beginning and a new relationship that would be rooted in trust."
Baroness Margret Thatcher

"I hope to not just laugh, but to laugh uncontrollably. I hope to not just cry, but to wail deeply. I hope to not just find the elusive "alone together" place within, but to hold, and be held in it. I hope my refection on the lake dissipates and I can see into the waters."
